Heaven's Embrace

Slowly, I backed away.
Knowing if I stayed close, I'd be locked away.
I'd done it, taken the deadly dose.
-
Heart thudding loudly,
The room's ghostly grace framed my fear;
The aching delight of what we'd done proudly.
Bodies, bodies and bodies lay,
Unhinged smiles sprawled across the bleeding faces.
-
The feeling of it, I will explain.
Have you felt the graceful fingers of the one who holds your heart?
Have you wondered how they'd feel on your heart?
The hands of the one you most love, on your heart!
-
For me and the others here,
Such a feeling could never be.
Or so we thought.
-
I learned a secret; 'Heaven's Embrace'.
What I wanted, What I needed!
I had found the right place!!
-
It was simple. Gulp a pill,
And follow the trance,
And then you'd feel it,
'His hand'—the hand of the one you love most—enfolding your heart,
Soothing and consoling every heartbeat.
The sweetest fondle your heart has ever felt in such warm embrace!
But in reality, it was the hand of a stranger. -
The best seconds of your life as your last.
What could be better?
-
Then with blurry eyes and entranced smiles,
Lost in ecstatic euphoria,
You'd see 'the hand' rip itself free from your cracked-open chest,
As the room gets painted red by your wild gushing pump.
Then the thump of your body crashing unto the floor,
As the one whose hand it was, calls in the next who wishes to experience 'Heaven's Embrace'.
Author's Note:
I wrote this to give a voice to the silent desperation of those who have given up on life. I wanted to capture the heartbreaking reality of what it truly feels like to be on the brink. My goal and my honest prayer is simply that we learn to love each other better as humans.
Interpretation
(P.S: This is just my interpretation of it. I’d love to hear your own interpretation based on where this poem meets you in life.)
Desperation is a dangerous architect. When we are pushed past our threshold, we stop looking for 'safe' and we start looking for 'relief.' We will accept an enemy’s touch if it mimics the love we are starving for.
Think of 'Heaven's Embrace' as a suicide cult for the heartbroken, a final destination for those who feel there is nothing left for them in life.
The concept is terrifyingly simple: Victims are drugged to feel only euphoria. In this trance, when the 'Keeper' cracks open their chest to massage their heart, they do not feel pain. Instead, they hallucinate the warm, consoling embrace of their one true love (the one they've always loved but could never have). Or they might hallucinate they're living their best life (the life they've always wanted but couldn't have).
They trade their life for a single moment of perfect, simulated affection. They die happy, having their hearts ripped out in a literal and metaphorical 'embrace.'

So evocative.🎉🎉🎉
Stunning, dark and heavy. I felt this whole thing in my chest and throat. 👏👏
